GENX'S LGBTQ TEEN FILMS

Being a teenager means that you are filled with embarrassing questions, sexual curiosity, romantic crushes, and raging hormones. This is a time in your life when you are starting to look for relationship ideals that are independent of your parents and their experiences. This is also a time when you might be trying to figure out where on earth you fit in.

Being a LGBTQ teen means that finding answers and outlets for all of these new changes can be a bit of a challenge. On top of this, you have a bunch of additional issues to deal with: coming out, learning how to express yourself sexually, finding romantic relationships, and dealing with the specifics of sexual health.

You may not realize it, but there are tons of movies out there that cater to teenagers facing such challenges!

GENX TEEN PICKS TO GET YOU STARTED

Get Real – Openly gay teen deals with the complications of his secret romance with the school’s star athlete.

But I’m a Cheerleader – Tongue-in-cheek comedy about a misunderstood girl whose parents send her to a gay-rehabilitation boot camp despite a lack of evidence that she's actually gay.

Prom Queen – Based on a true (local!) story, an openly gay teen is banned from bringing his boyfriend to the prom as his date. He fights back against the school, rallying more than just his friends to join his cause.

The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love – Two girls from “opposite sides of the tracks” fall in love and begin a relationship, resulting in opposing reactions from their respective families.

Beautiful Thing – Urban story of a gay teen pursuing his growing love for the boy next door, while still trying to remain closeted from his over-protective mother.

D.E.B.S. – Goofy movie about a sexy villain-girl who, while fighting a gang of super spy-girls, manages to seduce one of their team.
